Programmed Sequences Theories

Have you ever heard the phrase "we all have to die someday"? Well, this is true. We all age. You can consider yourself lucky if you simply die of old age. Aging is programmed into our body systems. It is an essential part of the biological system of all persons. Aging is a complex interaction of genetics, chemistry, physiology and behavior.

There is a biological timeline that our bodies follow. Aging is caused by certain genes switching on and off over a period of time. We also face hormonal changes and the immune system is programmed to decline over a period of time.

Hayflick Limit

The Hayflick limit was discovered by Leonard Hayflick in 1965. Hayflick Limit is an observation that cells dividing in cell culture divided about 50 times before dying. As cells approach this limit, they show more signs of old age. Cells from young people divide about fifty times before they stop. Cells from adults divide only about twenty times more before they die.

Aging is generally characterized by the declining ability of cells to respond to stress, increasing homeostatic imbalance and increased risk of aging-associated diseases. Because of this, death is the ultimate consequence of aging.

Coping With Aging

People cope with aging in different ways. Some approach it with fear, some have the “grow old gracefully” attitude and some fight the aging process with hormone replacement therapy or similar methods. There are no set guidelines when it comes to how to cope with an aging body. In latter years some people realize that their time is limited and they make peace with themselves and to enjoy what remaining life they have to the fullest.

Some people question the longevity of life knowing how the changes one goes through will affect the body. Talk to your loved one to address any concerns they may have regarding death. Visit with them as often as possible. Create happy times. Reflect back on moments that meant a lot to your loved one. Make sure they are as comfortable as possible. In the end, nature will take its course.

Love ones

If you have a loved one or family member who is aging, you are probably worried about how you are going to meet their needs in the future. They will need extra assistance with activities of daily life and housekeeping tasks. Life Alarm is one way to help your loved one keep their autonomy and their self respect as long as possible.
