For seniors to determine the best city to live, they must first decide what is important. There are many things to consider such as health, economics, crime rate, social environment for seniors, transportation, and housing to name a few. Some cities fair better in these categories than others. A study was done to determine the best city that provides optimal living for seniors based on criteria important to them. According to a study done by Banker’s Life and Casualty Company, Portland, Oregon has been appointed the best city for seniors. The study was not done based on retiring seniors but on senior living in general. Also making the top five list is Seattle, Washington; San Francisco, California; Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.













City of Roses

Portland, Oregon also known as the "City of Roses" is considered the greenest city in the United States. This city made the top of the list because of its senior health care services, adult day care centers, assisted living facilities, and senior meal services. The city has a convenient transportation. Portland streets are walker and biker friendly. Portland residents also have a longer than average life expectancy and a low incidence of heart disease.

Seattle Washington is also known as "Emerald City" because of its lush evergreen trees in the area. Seattle is chosen by seniors because of the beauty of the natural environment as well as the close knit communities that are available for seniors to live.
